How can I help my child with reading at home?

Calgary Reads is an excellent website dedicated to early literacy. The website has numerous resources to support parents reading with young children at home:
​Calgary Reads also has the Children's Reading Place: "The Children’s Reading Place is a colourful, welcoming heritage house in Inglewood devoted to promoting the love of reading and early literacy. It’s an inspiring and inviting place where children can explore reading spaces, participate in fun literacy activities and choose a free book to take home and keep." Families can book a time to visit the Children's Reading Place here.

How can I help my child with math at home?


This link  provides specific information about what children in grade one are learning in math. To support this work at home, work with your child to see how they use math on a daily basis. The following articles provide more detailed information as well as tips to support math learning:

How can I help my child with printing at home?



At the beginning of grade one, proper printing is emphasized. If children learn to form and space their letters properly now, writing will be a much easier task as they move up in grades.
